Direct booking

Definition

A reservation a guest makes through the hotel's own channel — its website, phone, or email — rather than through an OTA, so no commission is charged.

A direct booking is any reservation taken without a third-party marketplace in between. The clearest modern form is a guest booking on the hotel's own website, but a phone call or a WhatsApp enquiry the property confirms itself counts too.

Because there's no intermediary, the hotel keeps the full rate, owns the guest's contact details, and controls the experience end to end. The challenge is making the direct option as easy and trustworthy as the OTA — which is what a fast, professional booking website with built-in payment or enquiry exists to solve.

Why it matters

Direct bookings are the most profitable revenue an independent property has: no commission, a guest relationship you can build on for repeat stays, and rates and policies you set. Growing the direct share is the core goal a booking website serves.
